Words of Encouragement
Taking you from Time To Eternity……
Dunn’s Memorial Baptist Church

Give It To God....
"I was a little tired yesterday, BUT I feel a whole lot better
today!!!!
It seems like I only get tired when I try to carry those things
that should be given to God to carry. It’s funny, but whenever I
turn those things over to him, my burden is lighter and I get my
strength back. The Word of God says, “My yoke is easy and my burdens
are light”. The yoke that God places on us to carry is easy! The
reason why it is easy is that he promised not to put any more on us
than we could bear. If we always feel tired and burdened, according
to the Word of God, you have picked up the wrong load to carry—put
it down and pick up the one with your name on it. When we honestly
sort out the things in our life that we should do and the things
that God should do, not only does it relieve unnecessary stress, but
only then will you ever reach a sense of accomplishment. It’s almost
like asking a small child to lift a hundred pounds of weight over
his head—the outcome is failure and if he really tries, it adds
frustration. But give that small child, a five pound weight; It may
require an effort, but it is doable, AND he will feel a sense of
accomplishment that will serve as an encouragement.

Have you ever noticed how God’s LOVE gives us a
wider view of life and of the people around us and even close to
us--whereas our human expression of love is always shortsighted and
self-serving?
This is what LOVE is NOT:
| L |
Lack |
| O |
Of |
| V |
Vision |
| E |
Emitted (To emit is to
bring forth with authority) |
Where there is no vision the people perish.
This scripture reference not only applies to the church, but also to
our government, schools, and even our homes. A lot of damage can be
done when adopting the above rendition of LOVE. We should all be
wary when our personal agendas are elevated to a crusade proportion,
insomuch that deceit and lies are acceptable weapons of warfare. The
LOVE OF GOD is liberating, it gives his people the ability of 20/20
vision as a guiding light not just hindsight. To be afraid to
demonstrate the VISION of God is to not walk in HIS LOVE.

Slow down and enjoy….
Have you noticed whenever we rush things in life
we make errors? There are two options individuals can take to
address this problem: Option 1: Slow down and give more thought to
your actions. Option 2: Continue to rush and then live with the
consequences of the impact of your errors. If we continue to rush
through our days this can result in reflecting on a life of missed
opportunities and overlooking what is really important in life.
SLOW DOWN and have a BLESSED DAY! This is the
day that the Lord has made, we should be glad and rejoice in it!!!
Tomorrow will handle itself--take advantage of today because you
won't get another chance to make it right!

Am I Parenting In A Godly Manner?……
I don’t agree with a lot of decisions that my children make, BUT
I love them enough to know the importance of them needing my support
as a parent. Many life lessons that our children learn may be an
expensive life lesson on their dime, but children should never doubt
that there parents will be there for them. Parent’s emphasize and
put forth much concern and effort over ungodly things, (i.e. sports,
education, social status) if parents put the same effort in
advancing their children’s self esteem and godly priorities—this
impact would assist in their children making sound choices
throughout their life. Unlike the ostrich that doesn’t even know to
protect its young (Job 39:13-17), the wisdom of godly parenting is
when you seek the Kingdom of God FIRST, everything else… will fall
in place. Learn to invest in the emotional and spiritual wellbeing
of your children and one day they will mature into godly young men
and women and bring YOU much pride and joy.

What Is Love……
There are only two commandments that God expects
for us to fulfill—‘Love God with all your heart’ and ‘Love your
neighbor as yourself’. What the Lord wants us to understand is that
the motivation of LOVE is not contingent to you feeling like being
obedient to him. We are commanded to LOVE! Love is an action it is a
response to your obedience to God rather than just a feeling. The
Lord says, ‘Don’t say that you love me and don’t do what I say”? The
world has defined love as butterflies fluttering in your
stomach—followed by this overwhelming emotional bliss. The world
identifies love when you are physically and emotionally attracted to
a person and that you draw strength in the way they make YOU feel.
This is a very common yet very shallow usage of the term LOVE.
What’s confusing is that we have been
conditioned by everything around us to accept the romantic fantasy
that LOVE is a rare feeling that may or may not be experienced in a
lifetime. The true meaning of love can be found in 1 Corinthians
13:1-13. Substitute the word charity with love and it will give you
a whole new perspective of what true LOVE really is. As a Christian
we have defined a whole new path of LOVE and it is so much higher
than the world’s view.

LOVE MEANS … NEVER having to say “I’M SORRY”!
While this may be a popular interpretation of love and has a
romantic overtone, it is not a true reflection of man’s human
nature. Even though TRUE LOVE is unconditional and void of
egotistical interference, a good ”I’M SORRY” can open up the door of
forgiveness in your relationship. Jesus’ response to the disciples’
question concerning forgiveness was that as many times as someone
would turn and acknowledge their error -- we have a responsibility
to show compassion. Although, NEVER having to say ‘I’m Sorry’, may
be a popular Valentine theme, adopting this romantic concept can
land you in the proverbial dog house.
Maybe the Valentine theme of Love should be changed to say….,
LOVE MEANS….. NOT having to say “I’M SORRY” as much!
♥♥♥ Happy
Valentines Day♥♥♥

Having a childlike mind when serving God allows you to see and enjoy
the miracle and the beauty of life. The scripture says that we must
become as a child in order to enter into the Kingdom of God.
Becoming a child has nothing to do with being shallow or naïve, nor
should it challenge your pride or intellect, BUT we should be
totally dependent on God the way a child leans and depends to that
mother for guidance. A childlike spirit allows us to see things that
arrogant grownups will never see about God. Serving God is a joy
when you diligently do your part and then watch how he always shows
up to do his.
